Plant watermelon in New York

Last year, I planted some water melon at my backyard. It was surprisingly success as I can wait until the water melon if fully ripe. In this article, I’d like to record this process for this year in case anyone wants to have a try.

Put the seed into a ice coffee cup. The seed is covered by 1 inch (2.5cm) soil. Please drill some holes at the bottom of the cup to make sure there is no extra water in the cup.

9 Days later, we can see that the baby watermelon is growing.

One broke ground, two are working on it.

They are growing big with stronger root, however, recent the new york’s outdoor temperate is very low. The lowest is about 9 °C. It will be warm since this Sunday (May 7, 2023), and I will move them to outdoor then.

Carefully cut the plastic cup and take the baby watermelon out with the soil.

NY’s weather is cold this year and baby watermelons are growing up slowly.

You can see that the watermelon is getting ready to clim.

Weather is warm now and the watermelon is growing faster than before.

My first watermelon flower this year.

The watermelon is growing bigger and bigger. The white flower is the strawberry’s flower. We do have the first yellow watermelon flower, see next photo.
