How to install gcc on MAC

Mac by default is using clang

➜  ~ g++ --version
Configured with: --prefix=/Library/Developer/CommandLineTools/usr --with-gxx-include-dir=/Library/Developer/CommandLineTools/SDKs/MacOSX10.15.sdk/usr/include/c++/4.2.1
Apple clang version 12.0.0 (clang-1200.0.32.29)
Target: x86_64-apple-darwin19.6.0
Thread model: posix
InstalledDir: /Library/Developer/CommandLineTools/usr/bin

If you want to use gcc, you can install by

brew install gcc

After that, the g++ version may be still not the same:

➜  ~ g++ --version
Configured with: --prefix=/Library/Developer/CommandLineTools/usr --with-gxx-include-dir=/Library/Developer/CommandLineTools/SDKs/MacOSX10.15.sdk/usr/include/c++/4.2.1
Apple clang version 12.0.0 (clang-1200.0.32.29)
Target: x86_64-apple-darwin19.6.0
Thread model: posix
InstalledDir: /Library/Developer/CommandLineTools/usr/bin

This is caused by the gcc should be called by using g++-13 (by default it is g++-13), you can check by:

➜  ~ g++-13 --version
g++-13 (Homebrew GCC 13.2.0) 13.2.0

If you want to use gcc, you can

➜  ~ which g++-13
/usr/local/bin/g++-13

then

cd /usr/local/bin
ln -s g++-13 g++

After that restart the terminal, you can have the correct g++ version:

➜  ~ g++ --version
g++ (Homebrew GCC 13.2.0) 13.2.0
